We, the makers of Obama Waffles, have been inspired to make our first charitable donation.
Earlier this week, 66-year-old Maryanne O'Neill chose to go to jail instead of paying for her meal at a Waffle House in Fort Pierce, Florida. After downing a sandwich and coffee, she started to leave without paying. An oversight? Nope. When a Waffle House worker asked for the $7.45, O'Neill refused to pay.
The police were summoned. When given another chance to make good on her tab, O'Neill refused once again. She, in turn, was carted off to spend the night in jail for "defrauding an innkeeper." It's unclear if she was unhappy with the service, the food, or just didn't have the means to pay.
When we learned that O'Neill faces up to sixty days in jail and a fine of $500, we gladly submitted a $10 check payable to the Waffle House to cover her meal and the cost of a tip. We tossed in a box of Obama Waffles as an added bonus. After all, we feel their pain over the loss of revenue during these difficult economic times.
By the way, as far as we can determine, this payment of $10 to settle Maryanne O'Neill's Waffle House debt is more than Barack Obama has given to support his brother, George Obama, who lives in a 6' x 10' hut in the slums of Kenya. According to published reports, the multimillionaire Obama hasn't sent his brother any financial assistance.
