President Nixon was embroiled in Watergate. President Clinton was exposed by Zippergate. And so far, president-elect Obama has his own troubles with "Birthgate." Indeed, finding a genuine copy of Barack Obama's birth certificate is a little like playing a game of Where's Waldo? as citizens and lawyers in Connecticut, Georgia, Hawaii, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Washington hunt for the real deal.
At stake is Obama's eligability to become the next president of the United States.
Yesterday, writing for WorldNetDaily.com, Chelsea Schilling provided an update on a number of these independent legal actions (read her report here.) She included this reaction by an Obama campaign spokesperson over Birthgate: "All I can tell you is that it is just pure garbage. There have been several lawsuits, but they have been dismissed."
That's not true. There are several pending legal actions that could prevent Barack Obama from taking office. In the U.S. Supreme Court case Berg v. Obama, Justice David Souter set a deadline of December 1, 2008 for a response from Barack Obama and the other named co-defendants. Time will tell whether Birthgate is "just pure garbage."
This much can be said. A private investigator with FBI training was hired by WorldNetDaily to investigate both Queens Medical Center and the Kaliolani Medical Center in Hawaii where Obama's birth certificates are rumored to be housed. He reports, however, that sheriff's deputies were positioned at both facilities to "fend off press inquiries about Obama's birth certificate."
Why all of the secrecy? What's there to hide?
